Can I reidentify black 6 awg with orange tape to meet 110.15?

Yeppers. It's neutral use where #6 and smaller must be white or gray and not marked.

That leads me to thinking I can reidentify 12 awg thhn from black to brown using electrtape for 277 V circuits.

You can re-identify any ungrounded color to be any other ungrounded color regardless of size..
