"110.24 (A) Service equipment in other than dwelling units..."

We do a lot of Ag work and most of the Service Equipment is not "in" anything. It is on a post or the exterior of some structure but never "in". As it is worded, I see no NEC reason to include the label. Comments?

Hmm, is that Ag equipment 460V? What if you don't label it and there is an fire or short relating to '
fault current?
Or it depends on what the definition of "in" is....
Of course the service equipment must be in an enclosure. Hows that?

Tom (ptonsparky), I think it is you who are grasping at straws. Almost the entire code is separated into dwelling unit rules and non-dwelling unit rules. This one is a non-dwelling unit rule, not an "inside the building" versus "outside the building" rule. If you are working under the 2011, I think the labels have to be there.

"In" the contract.
"In" the scope of work.
"In" the property line.
"In" the year of our lord 2012???
"In" a place in time and space.
I could go on and on, "In" case you haven't read enough.

Charlie,
I think the intent is clearly what you have stated, but we can only enforce the actual words that made it into the code. In my opinion, Tom is correct...he doesn't need the labels. The CMP could have used other words, such as "for" or "serving", in place of "in" to make their intent clear, but they didn't.
