What would and wouldn’t fit this category in your opinions?
 
What wouldn't fit is something that you would absolutely not examine while energized which isn't much. Equipment is so broad that it can apply to almost anything electrical.

I was gonna say nothing really comes to mind. Even a receptacle could need examining.
 
I agree. That section is so poorly written that it needs to be fixed or removed from the NEC.

I’m not seeing the smaller dimensions allowed am I blind?

Is that because only smaller people work on low voltage? lol

Those are decided by your AHJ when he provides the written special permission.
