Article 110.26 defines "dedicated space" (space above equipment, as opposed to "working space" in front of it) for panelboards, switchboards, and MCCs, but makes no reference to transformers.

110.26 is what keeps you from putting a water pipe 2' above a switchboard. Does this mean that you can run a water pipe 2' above a transformer? Is transformer "dedicated space" defined elsewhere and I am just missing it?

110.26 does not apply to space above transformers

I personally wouldn?t be concerned with a water pipe passing over a transformer. You can have a guard installed if you determined that the water pipe can damage the transformer.

450.8 Guarding.
Transformers shall be guarded as specified in 450.8(A) through 450.8(D).

I agree with the others, the dedicated space requirements of 110.26(F) do not apply to transformers.

The reason that the dedicated space is required for panelboards, switchboards etc.. is that there is a high probability that in the future more wiring will be run from these and there needs to be room for the addition wiring.
