I know what the code book tells you in 110.26 and clearance in front of electrical equipment. In a commercial kitchen, it is not always possible to have 3 foot clearance in front of every disconnect switch. The panel that feeds the disconnects is within sight and the breakers are readily accessible. Can I justify a disconnect not having 3 feet of clearance in front of it? You can still reach the handles to operate the disconnects but they are only serving as a service disconnect for each piece of equipment.

Thoughts?

I can't see any justification in ignoring 110.26. If there is a malfunction it might well be in the disconnect and it's likely a service tech will be checking that disconnect while it is energized.
If the breaker is in sight form the equipment, it appears it might serve as your disconcerting means and the switch is not needed.
