My question is: Can a 112.5 kVA transformer be hung above a closet with the ceiling removed.
450.13 states that a transformer larger than 50kVA cannot be hung in over a suspended ceiling, but they can be hung in the open. The area I am looking at installing panels has a drop ceiling throughout with about 8 feet of clearance from the suspended ceiling to the deck. The panels are going in a closet. Is it legal to install the transformers directly over the closet and remove the ceiling. Does that constitute "in the open"? The areas directly around it are remaining drop ceilings. I am assuming the open requirement is for being able to drop and replace the transformer. Am I wrong?
