I recently ordered some step lighting for a theatre .
i got a surprise when they came 12vac volt instead of 24vac.
can i use these on 24 volts?

these are tracktube led lighting with a series resistor, spaced 4 in apart.

i installed one with 6 leds , it read .2 amps.

any help appreciated?

i hate to have to reorder these things, takes 6 weeks.

thanks
steve

Unlikely that they would function correctly at double rated voltage. If they are simple rectifier-resistor-doide lamps, then operating at 24V will greatly increase the current flowing through the LEDs. They will overheat and either fail, or more likely they will degrade and go dim very quickly.

If the lamps are particularly simple, you may be able to operate 2 in series at 24V.

Some LED systems use a switching power supply that will properly operate over a wide range of supply voltage.

thanks jon,

i thought i would try, it is unlikely i can use these in series because they are individual steps, they measure in seperate lengths from 36 to up to 72inches long. i have about 25 of them. sheezzhh,zamm..

one other option i have is to change the xfmr.

I would check with the manufacturer. A few minutes on the phone costs a lot less than any LED product I've seen. Can't you return the 24V xfmr and order a new 12V xfmr?

jon, these are 12vdc LEDs, they are wired series parallel and my question
would be,?

my present voltage supply in 12vac, what kind of life expectancy can i expect
to get out of this leds, operating on ac instead of dc?

i have a 100va xfmr 120vac-12vac, what size rectifer will i need for this size
load? 120/100 =.8a primary 100/12 =8.3sec

any help?

steveng,

Didn't you get ' installation instructions ' with these parts ?

FWIW, I have installed led's on 120vac with a resistor in series and they have

been working for years.
