I was doing some work in strip mall. All slab construction. I noticed that all the pvc branch circuits came up into one 12x12x4' gutter. From the gutter there were larger conduits running to the 120/208 panel and the 277/480 panel. Is this normal to mix voltages in the same gutter? Would this be a violation of any kind?

TIA

It's ok just identify the neutrals.

What about the ungrounded conductors?

210.5 Identification for Branch Circuits.

(C) Ungrounded Conductors. Where the premises wiring system has branch circuits supplied from more than one nominal voltage system, each ungrounded conductor of a branch circuit shall be identified by phase or line and system at all termination, connection, and splice points. The means of identification shall be permitted to be by separate color coding, marking tape, tagging, or other approved means. The method utilized for conductors originating within each branch-circuit panelboard or similar branch-circuit distribution equipment shall be documented in a manner that is readily available or shall be permanently posted at each branch-circuit panelboard or similar branch-circuit distribution equipment.

Good point there. Definately need to identify.

As stated above, no violation, however, I once used to think so.
Class 3 and Class 1... then there's a violation

Yes that is right. That is something that is a given to me because I always pull BOY for 277/480 and BRB for 120/208.

Does everyone use BOY and BRB?

I heard that in some places it was Red, Black, Blue...
In fact, the military hospital we are working at right this minute... is using that color scheme... first time I have used it in Colorado.

The NEC doesn't specify any certain color scheme. It's always proposed, and always rejected as a 'design issure'. Local codes and site specs may dictate otherwise, however.

I use fushia, magenta and sky blue for 480, and mocha, olive and rust for 120.

Olive isn't used for the EGC?

When you use your own designer colors, you don't have to follow the NEC. ;)

So my use of Bistro, Carmine, and Midnight Minnesota Magenta is good for 120-240, and Burnt Sienna, Atomic Tangerine and Chartruse for 277-480 is good?

Groundeds would be Winter Wheat and Ecru. Grounding is Asparagus.
