Does anyone know if an EGC is required in circuits OVER 60V to ground regardless of if it is a power conductor or an Instrumentation conductor. IMO a 120V circuit going to a level switch needs an EGC. However, the Instrumentation Engineer does not believe that EGCs are required in ANY instrumentation circuit regardless of voltage.

Thanks

An EGC is generally required regardless of voltage, but there are exceptions which are tied to some instrumentation wiring.

First see 90.3 regarding structure of Code.

Then go to 250.112. Read general statement then (I) thereunder. Instrumentation circuits are considered remote-control and/or signalling circuits (Article 725) in most cases, but nowadays some cases are covered in Chapter 8 on communications.

Anyway, from there it splits up into several possible directions too expansive to cover all possibilities of your general query.
