12Vdc In the Wall

I have an application feeding 12Vdc from above the ceiling. Power supply is mounted in a 4 sq. box in the ceiling. Feeding the 12Vdc from the power supply inside a sheet rock wall approximately 6 feet to a ribbon (tape light) surface mounted on the sheet rock. The building is an assisted living facility. (Commercial / healthcare).

Does the 12Vdc conductor need to be inside a wireway /conduit /flex? Or is a PVC jacketed
two conductor cable sufficient?

What immediately comes to mind is that the wire you are using needs to be listed as CL3 at minimum (this allows for it to be installed within a wall) , next would be if it also needs to be Plenum rated if the airspace above drop ceiling is for return air to air handler.
