I am going to replace a 480/277V panel that sits right next to one of our transformers. I am sure you are all tired of the subject but.......By my eye the grounding and bonding happens right there in the transformer secondary. Why again at the panel I will set(replace ) ? is it just that it is considered the first point of service? or as I heard Mike Holt say in one of his videos [ paraphrasing] "dont worry about whats going on in there. thats not NEC." thanks for any insight!

Do you own the transformer? If yes, it is not a service point. However there are several code sections which have requirements similar to what you will find in Article 230.

Yes Jim......there is a loop system here from different subs and we do own the transformers. Im sorry, so because we own it the trans secondary is NOT a service point?

Yes. Per NEC Article 100:

"Service Point. The point of connection between the facilities of the serving utility and the premises wiring."

Cheers, Wayne

For the most part these transformers are treated no differently than your small 480-208Y/120 transformers.
Your neutral to ground bonding can be done internal to the transformer or at the secondary disconnect(s).
