I bought some 14/3 Romex cable instead of a 14/2 cable to add a single outlet in my home. I'm just adding a Power Bridge type configuration so one outlet is a receptacle and the other outlet is a plug.

The single outlets have only three connections (brass, silver, green).

Should I connect black to brass, white to silver, ground to green and leave the red wire abondoned?

Can I just put a wire nut to cap the red wire on both ends and label them do not energize?

Does my plan violate any NEC codes?

Thanks in advance.
