is there a code requirement on which type of 15 or 20a circuits to be used. is there a minimum number of 15 and a minimun number of 20a receptacles are required, basically is there a requirement that requires 15 or 20a outlets. can we just run 15 ckts for convience receptacles or must if be 20a for dwellings and or commercial. Also in a commerical space whats a standard when drawings dont state how many ckts in conduit for convience outlets or lights in a conduit. Some drawings linit the # of circuits per conduit but if one isnt providedm whats a good rule or minimun requirement? i hope this makes sense. if you could provide code references in NEC i should start to look

There are certain locations that require 20 amp circuits like dwelling bathrooms, kitchens, etc. If a 20 amp circuit isn't specified somewhere in the NEC then a 15 amp circuit is permitted in either dwellings or commercial work.

Take a good look at 210.11 for required branch circuits, most are resi.

There are no required convenience receptacles for commercial. As far as the number of 15 or 20A circuits in conduit, I like as many of them as I can legally fit, 310.15(B)(3) places some limits on that and the short answer is you are limited to six in a pipe.

i appreciate the answers guys. i have spent the last 5 years work as a for small company where most work is the same and not very much
code to follow becuase its basically the same work every day. now that im in a different position. i feel completely out of place and need to get back into the NEC. That old saying You dont use it yo loose it , is very true. i have always found this forum to be the best for advise and answers.

so basically 2210.11 tells me MINIMUM number of 15 or 20a ckts for outlets and lighting ?? minius kitchen, bath, etc ?

20 amp for:

1 for the bath outlets; either all bath outlets in the home with nothing else on that circuit or just the lights and outlets in only one bathroom, your pick.

2 for the kitchen counter tops

1 for the washer

The 15 amp circuits and for lighting and general outlets calculated at 3va per foot. So, a 2000 sq ft home would be:

2,000 x 3va= 6000/ 120= 50/ 15= 3.3 or 4 15 amp circuits

The rest is as needed.
