Re: 1897 NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE BOOK

I have a copy of the precursor of the first NEC and it has a lot more pages than that. I can't answer the question but neither can Wayne.

I moved this thread to this area since this was for school work. :D

Charlie,
I didn't want to go too deep with an answer, but my research has indicated the first NEC was 4-pages. There is a lot of interesting history about the NEC online. I'll leave it to the student to confirm my research. That will give him/her ownership of the answer.

How many pages was the precurser? Who wrote that?

Charlie, I thought 1899 was the first and the meetings for it started in 1896. Here is all 67 pages of the 1899 NEC

That's cool Roger! My research confirms the 1896 committee formation date.

Re: 1897 NATIONAL ELECTRIC CODE BOOK

The book I have at home is a reproduction from the Middle Department Inspection (Company?) and was used as the format for the first NEC. It was given by that company (it is still in operation) at the 100th anniversary of the NEC at an NFPA annual meeting in Denver, CO.

They reprinted it for the attendees. :D

I have a copy of an 1881 Code adopted by the NY Board of Fire Underwriters:
It's one page. (courtesy of Joe Tedesco)

Superseding all previous rules and it has 54 pages

MDIA has been around quite a while. I use'em a lot up north. Super folks to deal with - call at 7:00am, and there's a good chance you'll see an inspector that same day, usually before noon. They're DRAMATICALLY easier to deal with than NYBFU...
