NYS has a requirement as part of their law that any person(s) installing line voltage smoke alarms is required to procure a State Fire Alarm License. (there are two ways a licensed electrical contractor can procure the license)
This law has been in effect for at least a couple of years, but until today I have not heard of any jurisdictions in the state enforcing it.
I received a call today from a contractor who was denied an electrical permit until he can prove he has the State FA license.
I see this as cascading to other municipalities now that one has "broken the ice"
