2 Circuits in one box

Can anyone reference a code rule stating that if you have 2 120v circuits in a switch box they need to be on the same leg of power, or have a divider between them in the box? The point being: if you have the potential for 240v in the box do you need a divider? A guy that works for me swears this is true and I just can't find it anywhere in the code book.

Example: 2-gang switch box with 2 3-ways in it. The other switches are at opposite sides of the house. If they aren't fed on the same circuit do they need a divider (assuming 240v potential between them)

Thanks, I'm a newbie but have been lurking for a while. This forum and the others are great. Glad there's something like this out there.

Re: 2 Circuits in one box

You can find 240 in many boxes that you might think only have 120 in them.

Thanks Bill. That's the only reference I could find to anything of that nature.

Physis, yes I am an EC. I don't now, nor ever will I, pretend to know the entire NEC word for word. You can always learn something new. This came from a bright, trusted employee, so I thought it was worth questioning, even if I had never heard of it.

Re: 2 Circuits in one box

I'm only asking because it's something an EC should know about. Nothing personal.
