Re: 2 different voltages in a light fixture

I can't find anything in the Code that wouldn't allow this. I've never seen it done before. I would definitely put a sticker inside the fixture alerting electricians that there are two sources of power (at different voltages).

Re: 2 different voltages in a light fixture

We do this alot, split a light with Normal and Emergency power but it was always 277 volt for both, I can not think of any reason it could not be done with 120 and 277.

As far as a lable of two souces of power, it would be nice, but has not been required of us.

There are many times when you have two souces of power that are not marked as such, think of office cubes that have up to 6 circuits per group.

sobucky,
Why these colors? There is no NEC requirement for specific colors for this application. If the 120 and 277 volt circuits are multiwire circuits you have to comply with 210.4(D), but the choice of color used is up to the designer or installer.

No rewiring necessary for 2x2 or 2x4 drop-ins with 2 ballasts, same as using 2 switches to control fixture.
