Running 2 hour fire rated Vitalink MC cable and have to have splices at one locations. I would imagine these have to be fire rate splices in a fire rated box. I believe the supports are special as well. Anyone have experience with running this stuff? Thanks.

Go here to register and get the installation guide. Much better than relying on our faulty memories.

You need to buy a field splice kit, which will take care of the 2-hours rating. Just so you know, the joint will take a lot more space, and if you have multiple conductors in a set or multiple sets, prepare them all to have staggered.

Another choice if you have not ordered or pulled it already. You can order it in a single length with factory splice to take care of the length. Also with factory splice, take extra care when the splice passes through the pulley.

Thanks. What do you mean by the factory splice? On the cable already? How is that?

Indeed they are and they are not required to be marked.

These are not for fire rated assemblies. The conductors need to last for two hours, and so do any field splices.

mstrlucky74, if you need to make a field splice go the the VITALink home page (the home page for the link you provided) and look at the bottom. There are links to three styles of field splice with different ratings.

It looks like the VITALink brand name is being used by Comtran Cable and RSSC. They are both owned by Marmon Engineered Wire & Cable LLC.

Yes, on cable already.

Let me explain. These cables are made a fixed shorter length, i.e. #3/0 cable comes in 375' single length per spool, and you need 600'. So you will need to make a joint anyway. In this case, you can order 600' with one factory splice and you get a bigger spool. Factory splice is also smaller in size. You also need to check how it would work logistically for you.

The best way is to talk to the factory rep, not your local distributor or supplier.
