i have to add a generator to protect an existing 2x200a service,my first question is if i can use the existing 2x 4/0 ser cables in parallel for my new 400a service rated ATS(load calcs are good). My generator has a 300a main and rated at 250a general consensus between engineer and generator engineer is everything is kosher, what do you think?

Its good because your protected at either 1-400A main or 2-200A mains. The load will probably never see close to that. A friend at the power company (a lineman) told me the way the POCO figures the load for a dwelling is 35 amps each. They dont use the NEC or the transformers would be huge. So that tells me a pot with 5 homes on it would be 35*5 (175) * 240 (because they only use 2 phases from a delta) thats 42Kw sounds about right, now bigger homes with a lot of inductive loads (heat etc) is prob different maybe they assume a little more but thats what the guy told me.
