Can conductors from 2 separate services occupy the same gutter or junction box? I was in a building today that has a gutter with 2 different services feeding wires to it. This doesnt seem safe.

Re: 2 services, 1 gutter

I thought that each building could have only one service unless the building is very large (which should keep them seperated) or for some reason approved by AHJ.

Re: 2 services, 1 gutter

It's interesting that the code doesn't seem to specificaly cover this possibility however, I am having a hard time imagining why it would be installed that way.

I would think the mixing of separate service conductors would not be desired however I guess it would be left to your AHJ.

Re: 2 services, 1 gutter

I am thinking that you have a building with seperately metered tenant spaces. Not a building with seperate services.

Are there 2 service drops?
or
Are there 2 underground service laterals?

Are you referring to two different services, or two different disconnect sources?

Re: 2 services, 1 gutter

The building has 2 overhead service drops. 1 on the west side and 1 on the east side of the building. The building is empty. There is a gutter in the middle of the building that has conductors from each service inside of it. I cant find anything in the code prohibiting it but I can see how its not safe.
