I have an existing 20 amp circuit that I want to add lighting onto. Do I have to use 12/2 wire all the way down the circuit? or can you add 14/2 wire at the point where you add the lighting circuit?

sorry did not see the post reply button.....sent you a prvt. msg......so...the 12/2 goes all the way to the switch/then to the light/ is it ok to then hook 12/2 up to the light when the light has 14 or 16/2 wire inside?

Let me start over with more info. I have an existing 20 amp circuit with 12/2 wire that goes into a junction box in the ceiling in the basement.

The junction box feeds several 20amp outlets on the walls in the basement. I want to add some lights to this circuit by tapping into that junstion box. What is the best way to add those fixtures?
