20 amp receptacles

I need to install 2 separate 20 amp, 120 volt receptacles in a local convenience store for separate cappuccino machines. Is it possible for these two circuits to be placed on a single 20A, 2 pole breaker and share a neutral? That extra neutral would over fill my EMT. Thanks.

Re: 20 amp receptacles

It sounds OK to me as far as the code regarding multiwire circuits is concerned.

I wonder about overload, though. If both machines are running at the same time, I suspect the total amperage could exceed 20. Code-wise you might be OK, but design-wise you might want to go another route. What wattage are the machines rated at?

Re: 20 amp receptacles

The machines pull 14A apiece. I figured if I used a 2 pole breaker, the neutral would only carry the unbalanced portion of the load, so the current would never exceed 20A. Am I correct on this? Thanks.

You are correct, and as a further note, you wouldn't need a two pole breaker since you are using two seperate receptacles.

Out of curiosity, what size emt, how many and what size conductors are in it now?
