OK, so let's start this thread. After my 20+ yrs in the trade I now feel that although updates to codes for not only the safety aspect but to keep up with technology are exponential to advancement. I have also started to believe that there's a monetary influence hidden in the background as well. To what percentage I'm not sure but with every update it seems to show this more and more. So one question I have is the code becoming compliant to profit? One example is AFCI. In my opinion GFCI has done a great job of saving lives for decades. I can't wait to see if AFCI will do the same. What's your thought?

I agree that a good memory is a great asset. That plus new things., New techniques, new circuits, new electronic devices. A moving target you might say.

So, wouldn't a GFCI breaker also trip in this circumstance? Even standard breakers trip when the 2 conductors in a cord short out.this>>>

I reread that. So the concern is if only 1 wire in the cord is exposed it can create an arc to surrounding material and possibly start a fire without any other type of breaker, but AFCI, being able to detect and trip.
Sorry, I obviously need to do research on this. Seeing I do only commercial work I never got involved with AFCI. Very interesting read but I still smell $$$.
