What a wonderful idea to reidentify the grounded conductor for DIY!
I finished a remodel several months ago with the exception of a couple of ceiling fans which the HO hadn't bought yet. He said he would either call me or hang them himself. He chose the latter recently.

I get a call from him, basically an "SOS". He attempted to install one of the fans and when he looked at the wiring in the ceiling box he thought, "well these wires are not right, there is a white wire tied to the blacks. He then proceeded to "correct" the wiring. I don't know if he tried the breaker several times or it just was old and couldn't handle a bolted short but it had to be replaced.

My rant is the grounded conductor was reidentified but that didn't mean anything to the guy. I'm sure this has happened a lot everywhere. So why should we have to do something that a DIY doesn't even understand to start with?

Rant over!

I'll Rant with Ya.

Re-identifying conductors actually confuses the issue for those of us that actually know what to look for, and , it doesn't make it any clearer for those that don't.

I could not agree more.

I agree too. Drop a light fixture and find a white conductor connected to a few black conductors and you would immediately know it's feeding the switch.
