So I am a little confused and just wanting to understand what the electrician is telling me better.

If I'm getting a 200 amp service installed (200 amp Square D RC816F200C meter main panel combo; meter above, panel below) and then want to run from that panel to a panel on my building a 200 amp service, isn't that possible or is there no such thing as a 200 amp breaker other than main breakers?

My electrician is telling me that I'd need to run two separate lines carrying 100 amps each to 2 different sub panels ( one for the shop & one for the bins). Not feed 200 amps from the meter panel to a sub panel in the shop and then from that sub panel feed another sub panel to run the grain bin fans, lights, and augers. The inside of the panel says a "2 pole type HOMA up to 200 amps may plug on 4 adjacent spaces" is okay but it just seems like I'm missing something.

TIA for helping to clarify this for me.

Your asking questions that are almost impossible to be answered effectively on an internet forum. It's not just the equipment rating that drives the final decision on how to feed separate structures. This type of situation needs to be handled on site and in person. The only real advice that can be offered is that if your electrician has given you a good reason to doubt his competence fire him or at least get a second opinion. Forum rules also prevent us from giving advice to those not employed in the electrical trades so with that I am closing this thread.
