Hi Guys!! We are upgrading a service from 100-200A. It will be a Mast Service so use 2" Rigid going to top. My question is, if we use pipe for the bottom of meter base as well, does that have to be rigid? I usually just run SEU from bottom inside house but the customer requested it to be in pipe. I was thinking of using PVC Conduit coming out of bottom to an LB to make everything easier and cheaper. I have not found anything in NEC about it, although I am not good navigating the book. I have no problem using Rigid coming out bottom if I have to but would rather not.... Any thoughts or code citations would be awesome. Our AHJ won't care as long as the top is 2" Rigid but I don't want to do anything not up to code.

The top and the bottom do not need to be the same wiring method. PVC conduit bodies sometimes don't allow the conductor sizes needed for 200 amps.

I am planning on 3- 4/0AL Wires through Conduit. I think the 2" LB's we use permit that. Would 3 wires be permitable if it is specified on the LB itself? For 4 wire feeders we use 2 1/2" PVC to comply.

Or is it legal to run 200A SEU AL through the 2" Conduit? Or will NEC only allow 3 4/0 XHHW AL into 2" LB?

I haven't seen a "standard" 2" LB that is marked for 4/0 conductors. I have seen and installed 4/0 in many of them though, both metallic and non metallic.

Not code really but- Weedwhackers will eventually cut into PVC... due to sunlight making it brittle. See it on drains and electric services run outside. May take a few years.

I'm looking at a Cantex 2" PVC LB. It is stamped inside:
"Use maximum of 3 type XHHW # 4/0 wire or smaller"

I'd suggest.............take a deep breath ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and,,,,,,,, go for it.

Ya never know with those. Recently I looked online to find the rated fill for an LB. I ended up buying a different brand just because that is what they had and it was rated less than the other one and less than what I was putting in it. That said, personally I am not too worried about ever getting called on such a thing.
