2005 changes to panels

The new code 05' states that any panel with 20 or 30 amp snap switches must be protected by no more than a 200 amp main. This is not the exact way it is worded. I don't have my NEC with me.
I am wiring a church bld. that will require a 400amp 120/240 volt service. Does this mean I will have to set two 200amp panels instead of one 400amp? If so, then I will have to set a main with two 200amp breakers. Does this sound right or am I off base with this.Help!...Thanks

Re: 2005 changes to panels

The 2005 Code states "408.36(C) Snap Switches Rated at 30 Amperes or Less. Panelboards equipped with snap switches rated at 30 amperes or less shall have overcurrent protection of 200 amperes or less."

Are these switches actually mounted in the panelboard? If not, it is not "equipped" with the snap switches. :D

Re: 2005 changes to panels

Actually, this section is not new. It has just been changed to positive text. I doubt this applies to you particular installation.

Article 100
Switch, General-Use Snap. A switch intended for use in general distribution and branch circuits. It is rated in amperes, and it is capable of interrupting its rated current at its rated voltage.

I have not seen (recently) any panels with snap switches located in the panel enclosure. I do have in my office an old panelboard with snap switches, it is pretty cool - and very heavy.
