To connect a 208V-1 phase rooftop HVAC unit, the mfr provides a terminal
block consisting of terminals L1, L2, and EQUIP GND.
If a fused disconnect switch provides the 2 wire plus equip gnd, does the
NEC require a NEUTRAL conductor to be included with the feeder on the
line side of the fused disconnect--(L1, L2, N, and equip ground -- steel C.
or green equipment ground wire?) I always show only two hots and a eq.gnd.--
with no neutral back to the panel feeder.

quotes NEC 220.22--is this an old reference?
