2005 NEC 692.65B allows a fuel cell to be connected on the load side of the service disconnect if all conditions of 692.65B (1) through (6) are met.

Specifically:

692.65B(2) States ?The sum of the ampere ratings of the overcurrent devices in circuits supplying the power to the busbar or conductor shall not exceed the rating of the busbar or conductor.?

Question: Does 692.65B(2) apply to the fuel cell breaker supplying the bus only or do we have to include the rating of the main service breaker plus the fuel cell breaker?

692.65B(3) States ?The interconnection point shall be on the line side of all ground-fault protection equipment.? The Article uses the term ?all? GFPE

Question: Assuming the service disconnect exceeds 1000A and includes GFPE, does interconnection point of the fuel cell have to be on the line side of the fuel cell GFPE and main (service disconnect) breaker GFPE or does 692.65B(3) only apply to the fuel cell GFPE on the load side of the main (service disconnect) breaker?

Question: Does 692.65B(2) apply to the fuel cell breaker supplying the bus only or do we have to include the rating of the main service breaker plus the fuel cell breaker?

All sources of supply must be counted.

I am not certain on your other question.

IWire,

Thank you for your response. My second question should have clarified, I am assuming the fuel cell hase GFPE and the service disconnect also has GFPE. The question: Does the interconnection point of the fuel cell to the bus have to be located ahead of bothe GFPEs or only the fuel cell GFPE?

Thanks,

Patrick
