Just got my new CD rom of the 2005 NEC. Found out I can't use it with out the CD being in the drive. All other versions I could copy to the hard drive. Of course the CD has the PDF version, but the search engine is better with the folio version.

Re: 2005 NEC on CD rom

Tom When I get mine I'll try this: to copy the whole disk to the drive by right click your CD-ROM drive in My computer and copy then paste to a new folder and just create a short cut to the .EXE program that launches it. I have done this to many disk's that didn't have a full loading feature. and they run fine. :D

Also use Explore to look for a "install.exe" program on the disk as it might not autorun when the disk in put in the drive.

Re: 2005 NEC on CD rom

Wayne we talked about this before with the 2002 CD-ROM handbook. I tried all the work arounds you suggested along with Ryan and some others.

I think that the NFPA has intentionally made it difficult to fully install the single user version.

From the licensing agreement
A single-user license for the software may not be shared or used concurrently on different computers.
If I need the disk in the PC that certainly makes it tough to run concurrently on different computers. :D

When I try your work around I still get this message.

Re: 2005 NEC on CD rom

I have a couple of free programs I am using that will create a virtual CD Drive. I'll let you know if it works. I don't know if the intent was to stop copying, as it is very simple to copy a CD.

Re: 2005 NEC on CD rom

Tom I did copy the entire CD-ROM to my hard drive, then I installed the program from the hard drive copy.

Once that was done I tried to run the program. Folio opened with a blank screen, I then used the 'open' command directing it to the hard drive location.

That was when the text box would pop up and say only from the rom.

I think they have made it tough to share which to be clear is not what I wanted to do. All I wanted was my CD-ROM drive empty and faster speed.

This is complete BS.
This will be the first time I am getting the book on CD. Do they actually think I will buy two copies or the multi-user version to install it on my laptop and PC? I THINK NOT.
I AM a single user, with two computers. No way anyone can tell me this is at all uncommon.
