2008 and table 310.15(B)(6)

do I understand the 2008 table and its corrisponding information correctly, that if I were going to run a new line to a Sub-panel in the attic for the furnace air handler that requires a minimum ampacity of 104.5 amps I would have to use table 310-16 and use # 2 copper. and not the #3 copper listed in the table 310-15

There are some, myself among them, who would have told you that that has been the case for some time. All they did in the 2008 version was to make the language more clear.
