Just out of curiosity, I know some states have already adopted the 2008 NEC, we still haven't here in GA, what are other states amendments including?
I know here it's a pretty hot debate over AFCI breakers, tamper resistant receps, GFCI for garage doors. Any thoughts or feelings?

good luck with that..unless your substantiation is greater then the ones the NEC used..smile and it will be easier..

edited: we had some issue here but to no avail just beating our heads against the wall..I guess exposing families (children) to raw sewage bacteria is less evil then the non existent electrical shock on a dedicated sewage pump circuit..who would of known that we can safely wade in it to fix it, when all that was wrong was that outlet failed and nothing else was wrong..thousands of dollars worth of damage for a situation that has been safe for years like it was..my rant..

I got an email yesterday and it sounds like Georgia is going to ammend out a lot of the 2008 changes like the TR receptacles AFCI's, etc. I will to to find it.

Thanks, I get some of those e-mailed to my office but you're probably right about them passing it. I believe it was from the state advisory committee but it still has to go before the state board, I think. From the report it sounded like there were both people for and against the amendments. 2008 has been(in recent memory) a hard fought battle across the U.S. regarding the NEC. But with gas prices the way they are, you would think there would be an even greater uproar over that.(I guess we're slowly becoming acclimated to paying over $3.00/gal);)

It is funny to me all of the fuss about the tamper resisant receptacles. I can get them for less than a dollar each and people are saying that it is going to significantly raise the cost of a house. If you have 200 of them in a house it will just cost an extra $80-$100. Wow. That is nothing on a $200,000 house.

Wow frizbee, that is a lot of ammendments, TN's is just 12 pages or so. Of course we are still a few cycles behind most states.

Right, and I have not read them all. Some don't apply to what I do on a daily basis. But I make it a point to take all the amendments and put a mark in my codebook for each section that has one. Then I am reminded that there is an amendment for that section.

That is a good idea. I keep a copy of ours in my code book, but I have most of them memorized. (there is not a lot of them)

Some folks buy the three ring binder version of the code and insert the amendments in the proper location. At least they used to print a version where you could do that. It's a pretty thin document physically, it just looks bigger in a PDF, scrolling through it on computer.
