i don't have an '08 code book at home, but here is the question:

article 760 something calls for no arc fault to fire protection...period....correct?

but there is no article that specifies wiring methods for residential smoke/fire alarms....correct?

A hair off topic here but I called the state yesterday to find out whats what with the rehab in NJ as I had a similar question.

Maybe it was posted before but:
If you do any work... new circuit, remodel or w/e in the existing footprint of the house you are under the 2005 code. You dont need any AFCI's anywhere (optional). Even a full gut of the existing house.

If its an addition aka new extension to the home you need to abide by the 2008 for AFCI's . AFCI= New construction only, my impression is smokes are included.

So Suzanne told us.

The way I read 760.1 FPN it does not apply to smoke detectors.
760.41b FPN would be the exception for residental receptacles for fire alarms.
(but after reading this board for as long as I have, we're not done yet.) ; )

Single station smoke alarms that are typical for homes are not a fire alarm system therefore Article 760 does not apply.
