I set out to secure a surplus length of 4/0 AL triplex to use between a 200A meter/cutoff box and a 200A main breaker box with cut off. (Meter at pole drop followed by a new 50' underground run to a freestanding 200A box for a mobile home). I ended up buying three, end-of-roll lengths of AL Type Use 2/direct burial, 350kcmil wire thinking overkill size wouldn't be a problem. Upon closer examination, I now realize that at around 3/4" it's significantly bigger diameter than 4/0 and likely will not fit the lugs in the 200A boxes. Simple question is whether I need to start over or will my electrician be able to trim several strands of this over-size to fit the lugs when they set up the service and still be in code?
