I understand that Mike has a site that lists the NEC adoption by state. Unfortunately the site does not identify when Florida will adopt the 2011 code.

From the Florida Building Commission:

NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE
The Florida Builidng Code adoptes NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code for electrical requirements in chapter 27 of the Florida Building Code, Building and NFPA 70A, The National Electrical Code Requierements for One and TwoFamily Dwellings, in Chapter 33 of he Florida Building Code, Residential.
Consult these volumes of the different editions of the Florida Building Code to determine which edition of NFPA 70 OR NFPA 70A they adopt.

The Effective Date for the 2013 Florida Building Code is December 31, 2014.

Thanks for the info. The last info that I have seen stated that the effective date was to be March 15, 2014 and that would adopt the 2011 NEC. Looks like the 2011 NEC will now be effective in Florida in 2015. Great news for delaying the crazy AFCI requirements!

OK! I finally talked to the Florida Building Commission and confirmed that the 2013 Florida Building Code will be effective on 31 December 2014. The effective date was identified in the August 2013 Commission meeting minutes but has not been officially announced because the code books have not yet been published Included within the Florida Building Code is the 2011 NEC (in it entirety with no amendments) as the Florida Electrical Code.

BTW, I have confirmed with EATON/Cutler Hammer that there are no listed AFCI breakers manufactured for Westinghouse, Challenger or Bryant service panels. Conforming to NEC 2011 Article 406.4(D)(4) will be very interesting in Florida starting in 2015.
