Do you think they will still adopt 2014 even though it's almost 2023 lolLast I heard they would be adopting some form of the 2014 NEC. I think that it was supposed to start in 2018. Almost 5 years behind sounds about right for them.
Here's some background info:
Is there some particular new thing in the code your looking forward to?Do you think they will still adopt 2014 even though it's almost 2023 lol
They are long overdue...
There is nothing I'm looking forward to in the new code, it's just mere curiosity. Is there some particular new thing in the code your looking forward to?
From my limited dealings with city code officials new codes that improve safety are taking priority, and the sentiment is that nothing really new or useful have been coming out of the NEC in over 10 years.
I would not be surprised to see some jurisdictions freeze the code on a 10 year cycle and just adopt a select few changes.
I would also not be surprised to see a 'fork' in the code, where a large jurisdiction moves away from the NEC entirely.
NYC has always had a home rule approach to the electrical code. Prior to the adoption of the amended version of the NEC many of the sections of their own electrical code were so poorly written that they could have been interpreted ten different ways. There is nothing I'm looking forward to in the new code, it's just mere curiosity.
Honestly don't know why there are different versions of the code book... Electricity doesn't care if it's in NYC or somewhere in Canada...
When's your expected retirement date?Does anybody know or have any insight to when they will upgrade the 2011 New York City Electrical Code?
They could do that for any large city. would be good to compare 2020nec large city vs some equivalent city with codes cycle 10 year or older.NYC fire data would be a great case study to see if code changes actually increase safety. Such a densely populated city.
I agree. States need to start ditching the NEC and move to another code that is based on statistics and cost/benefit analysis, has no mahufacturers on its panels, doesnt have absurd stuff from 100 years ago that has no basis in electrical theory, and written by writers who can actual come up with cohenerent English sentances. They constantly run the data and yeah the new versions of NFPA codes are pointless revisions pushed by huge corporate lobbyists.
Other jurisdictions should take note.
Its time to fork the code.
