now that the 2014 nec code has been adopted in pa. is there a six month window for them to get on board with the changes also how does it work with the permits if they were pulled before oct 1 can they still go by the2008 code any information on how this works would greatly appreciated

Typically, the date the new code goes into effect only applies to permits obtained on or after that day.

If your permit was issued before that day, the previous code applies.

Be careful because many areas adopt the newer code but it doesn't become applicable until a certain date. NC allows us to choose which code cycle we will use during that time. Once the date is reached then, as Ken stated, all permits from that date onward would have to be the new code. Older permits stay on the cycle they were issued on.

Here in NJ you have a six month grace period after the adoption date to still build according to the previous code. The one thing that is required is that it be clearly indicated on the permit application something like "This permit is under the 2011 NEC".

So if the adoption were July 1, 2018 you could build under the previous code until the end of the year as long as it's indicated. No indication then you're under the new code.
