Cross-referencing the Prius as a Generator thread here, for obvious reasons. It'd be helpful to see this addressed in the 2014 NEC. It's not quite a true generator (it's an inverter, really... like a UPS). It's not quite solar PV (no panels), but it's an inverter. It's not quite a "small portable generator" (it's vehicle mounted). But then it's not really a vehicle-mounted generator either. As discussed in the other thread, it's an odd duck under the 2011 NEC.
2011 cycle 590.6(A)(3)Receptacles on 15-kW or less Portable Generators. All 125-volt and 125/250-volt, single-phase, 15-, 20-, and 30-ampere receptacle outlets that are a part of a 15-kW or smaller portable generator shall have listed ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel. All 15- and 20-ampere, 125- and 250 volt receptacles, including those that are part of a portable generator, used in a damp or wet location shall comply with 406.9(A) and (B). Listed cord sets or devices incorporating listed ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel identified for portable use shall be permitted for use with 15-kW or less portable generators
manufactured or remanufactured prior to January 1, 2011.
An interesting change in 2014 is some relaxing of the rules which will no longer require the generator breaker to be listed as suitable for service when applying 702.11
