Hi all!

A couple of things I wanted to run past you folks that are more informed than me:

1. I was reading about 2026 NEC changes related to EVSE and am wondering about a the 625.44 listing requirement for receptacles. I'm a bit confused. Do listed EVSE receptacles exist? If not, is UL working on this? Why wasn't enforcement delayed? This article - STC - The 2026 NEC® and the Future of Electricals Systems: EVs and EV Supply Equipment - implies that we can use 90.4(D) to avoid this requirement if listed equipment doesn't exist?

2. Any updates on MA adoption of the 2026 NEC/MA electrical code?

Thanks!

As far as I know work has not been completed on adding the EV receptacle requirements to UL 498. The rule, since it requires both a change to the listing standard and a new receptacle design, should have had a future effective date.

At this point, if I was an AHJ and was going to use 90.4, I would push strongly for the installer to use one of the two receptacles that are currently on the market and marked for EV use, however I could not force the installer to do that.

Both of the ones on the market are much heavier duty than that standard receptacles and that is reflected in the price.
In the case of Hubble, their EV receptacle is their industrial duty receptacle that has been on the market for decades. In the case of Leviton, that is a new design receptacle specifically for use with EVs.

I have no idea of either of those will comply with the new EV receptacle listing standard, when that standard is published.
