120.11(A) Wherea an individual branch circuit supplies only a motor-operated loadsload, the conductor sizing requirement specified in calculated load shall be in accordance with 430.22 shall apply. Where a circuit supplies only air-conditioning equipment, refrigerating equipment, or both, the requirements of calculated load shall be in accordance with 440.6 shall apply. For circuits supplying loads consisting of motor-operated utilization equipment that is fastened in place and has a motor larger than 1⁄8 hp in combination with other loads, the total calculated load shall be not less than 125 percent of the largest motor load plus the sum of the other loads in accordance with 430.24.
Substantiation:
Two problem with the existing section:
- 430.22 only covers the case of a single motor, so it can not be the reference for multiple motors on a branch circuit.
- Article 120 is supposed to tell us the load, rather than just reiterate conductor sizing requirements from other sections. So the subject of the first two sentences should be "the calculated load", just as it is already in the 3rd sentence.
