I have an unusual situation where a 120/240 single phase panel has been installed in a commercial building. The owner want to connect equipment rated at 208/230 volts, would you hesitate to connect the equipment or do I need to add a buck-boost transformer.

Is the equipment rated 208/230 or 208-230? The difference being 208/230 can be wired either way and 208-230 works on anything within the range, usually.

You also have not said what kind of equipment. That may or may not matter.

I would like to know what equipment is out there that needs to be wired up one way for 208V and wired up another way for 240V. I've never seen it.

There are a few exceptions but for the most part it's whatever you have will work with what you got.
