208 vac - no neutral

Hi,

I need to light a sign off of 208 vac - no neutral. I was thinking of using a 208vac to 120vac transformer, and than a 120vac to 12vac landscaping transformer to landscape lighting. Will this work? I was told by one electrician than the landscaping tranformer will not work without a neutral.

I don't think the electrician understands what is going on. If you use a transformer to go from 208v - 120V then there is no reason the transformer won't work that I know about.

Just be sure that one side of the 120 volt section is grounded somewhere, there is an EGC going all the way to the landscape transformer, and you treat the 208/120 volt transformer appropriately as a separately derived system if the transformer is outside the sign.
