208 Volt Tap

I have wash machine with 208 volt single phase going to it with no neutral. I need to tap with control transformer for a 120 volt chemical feed line. The 208 volt is on a 40amp breaker with wash machine at FLA of 29 amps. Is it possible to 10' tap off the source 208 volt and add a control xfmr for the 120 volt outlet. Im asking this because i dont want to break containment by adding another circuit from the panel.

Certainly possible, Follow Art 450 & Art 240 for overcurrent protection requirements.

I don't think that would be permitted. See 210.19(A)(4) Exception No. 1 for permissible branch circuit taps.

You said the tap was 10' in your original post.

A 40 amp breaker would require 20 amp tap conductors.
