208VAC going through 480 Transferswitch Panel

I need to get 208vac to my generator to operate the heater block and battery charger. I have spare conduit running from my Transferswitch to the generator. The transferswitch switches 480vac. I can get 208vac from a nearby breaker panel and can run conduit from the 208 panel to through the transferswitch to the generator. My question is ..........Can voltage from a different source go through the transferswitch. I thought if it couldn't I would run liquidtite from where the 208 enters the transferswitch to where it exits out. Would that work if it comes to that.
Thanks

I may not be answering the question, but remember that if it is an actual Art. 700 emergency system, the rules & intent are stricter.

Re: 208VAC going through 480 Transferswitch Panel

I was thinking the same thing. If it weren't for a system separation issue than I think that it would comply with the NEC.

Its not the voltage difference that will matter.

If as kiloamp7 mentioned if this is an Article 700 type installation you will not be able to mix the normal and emergency in the same enclosure.

700.9(B) Wiring. Wiring of two or more emergency circuits supplied from the same source shall be permitted in the same raceway, cable, box, or cabinet. Wiring from an emergency source or emergency source distribution overcurrent protection to emergency loads shall be kept entirely independent of all other wiring and equipment, unless otherwise permitted in (1) through (4):

(1)Wiring from the normal power source located in transfer equipment enclosures

(2)Wiring supplied from two sources in exit or emergency luminaires (lighting fixtures)

(3)Wiring from two sources in a common junction box, attached to exit or emergency luminaires (lighting fixtures)

(4)Wiring within a common junction box attached to unit equipment, containing only the branch circuit supplying the unit equipment and the emergency circuit supplied by the unit equipment

This is what I was thinking also, that if you had two systems, one normal and one emergency than they couldn't be mixed. If it weren't an emergency system as defined by article 700 than they could be mixed.

IMO that is correct, if this is an Article 701 or 702 installation the 208 volt wiring for the block heater could run through the transfer switch.

For that matter it could run from the transfer switch to the generator through the same conduit as the feeders.
