I'm working on a small T.I. in an existing building. I would like to utilize existing near by circuiting, but I'm wondering under NEC 2008 210.4 if I utilize the existing circuits that are connected to their own 20/1P OCPD do I have to swap out the 1P OCPD for a multi-pole OCPD?

Thanks in advance for your response.

You can just use an identified handle tie to comply with 210.4(B). The disconnecting means required by that section does not need to be a common trip multipole breaker.

IMO, if you are using existing circuits, you wouldn't have to do anything in the panel(s) but, it could save you some trouble if you checked with your local building department and inspector.
