I agree with 1793,

210.52(B)(2) does not permit any other outlets to be served by the small appliance branch circuit other than those specified in 210.52(B)(1) and hardwired undercounter lights are not specified in 210.52(B)(1)

The kitchen lights can be on the same circuit as the livingroom lights.

So does that mean I could connect the kitchen lighting with the living room lighting, the porch lighting and a weatherproof GFCI on the front porch and back porch??? I'm asking this to find if I'm able to connect all of these locations together not if I have too may amps on a circuit..Thanks, JB

There are restrictions concerning the use of certain receptacle circuits for outlets other than that specific set of receptacles. The rules include such words as, "this circuit shall have no other outlets." Examples are the SABCs, the laundry receptacles, and bathroom receptacles. I don't know of any lighting circuits that are not allowed to be shared.

Hi JB, Sure you can mix receptacle with switch on Genl purpose BC's, just do not expect individual BC's to be included. [210.23(A)] Ex. and [210.11(C)] Adding a GFCI receptacle to an existing GP is permitted but be advised that if it is wired for downstream protection, think of the reset location.

One service call comes to mind where the client had to go outside in the snow at night to reset a GFCI so the wife could finish drying her hair while watching videos on the entertainment center in the bedroom. So human logistics plays a practicality in what is installed and where. Hope this helps. rbj

Maybe that would give him incentive to replace the faulty equipment he is using?

Or maybe the wife should dry her hair where most people do, the bathroom.People don't realize how many watts hair dryers use. Here's one I'll give you for free: had a service call one time at a beauty shop where the owner said she was having problems with her breakers tripping a lot for her hair dryers (common type). After checking the panel and receps I asked to look at the hair dryers. Turns out the ends were clogged with dust and debris causing the dryer to overheat.

Why would the breakers trip due to an overheated dryer?

Only theory I can come up with,(maybe you could tell me?) is that the hairdryer is still trying to do it's job even though the end of it is clogged with debris which results in a greater amp draw? This particular job didn't have gfci's but I have seen them trip on regular residential service calls. As soon as the debris is removed it runs like a top again unless the ocpd has been damaged as a result of overuse.
