Current project is a 3-story multifamily apartment building. Units exit to a covered walkway surrounding an open-air courtyard, then through a second door down an enclosed corridor to get to the parking lot.

210.52(E)(2) requires an outdoor receptacle when "the dwelling unit is located at grade level and provided with individual exterior entrance/egress..." Does the covered walkway/open courtyard qualify as the exterior? Or is the door out to the parking lot considered the exterior entrance/egress?

Thoughts?

IMO Yes , but you might want to check with you local AHJ, if one.

now read on a little further into (3) and I believe it will require a receptacle at each dwelling regardless of what you decipher out of (2).

AHJ has been about a month to respond, it's not terribly convenient.

Ooof, good point. There's currently a receptacle out on the back deck, but hadn't thought of the public covered walkway as a balcony, deck, or porch.

I've had it in my head the open breezeway is near identical to an apartment corridor, just open to the sky on one wall.

I say yes that's exterior, exterior to the dwelling building envelope.
