210.8(B)(2)... my understanding this rule only applies to receptacles installed within kitchen area, if there is a piece of equipment located in kitchen area but has hardwired connection, we don't need to provide ground fault protection for the circuit serving that equipment, correct?

Correct. Hardwired equipment does not require GFCI protection unless manufacturer requires it.
