wanted to make sure I am reading this correct is 210.8 B2 saying in a commercial kitchen the food prep area has to have all 15 & 20 amp 120 vollt receptacles GFCI protected even if below the counter and a dedicated circuit to a electrical cord connected appliance? Installing alot of appliance outlets in a coffee shop and wasnt sure if they needed GFCI protection TIA

All 15 and 20 amp 125 v receptacles in a commercial kitchen, no matter what the purpose, no matter what the location, must be GFCI protected.
 
I did a Petco store and all of the outlets were behind the fish tanks. I talked them into gfci breakers and they agreed and paid the extra. They were serviceable but not really unless you were Gumby Darn it.

No that's not it Norm, it's that the fridge and freezer are candidates for

shocking people, and lots of them are not commercial type.

I think that he's asking about using a GFCI breaker instead of a GFCI receptacle since resetting the rec behind the unit would be a hassle.

I was wondering how you guys typically do it since resetting the rec behind the unit would be a hassle. Also if fridge freez are in a different room than the cooking area is it necessary

Bid the device...up sell the CB.

Does the area have a sink?

In my experience, a commercial "area" with a sink, will also have "permanent
facilities for food preparation and cooking".

Of coarse, my bad, thought you were leading to the GFI requirements near sinks.
 
Alot of comercial equipment is used and the ground prongs are pulled out or nonfunctional on the cords . GfCI protection could save a lot of lives when a piece of equipment faults to the case of a non-grounded frig and the guy moping the floor leans up against it.

I was thinking the same as I typed that reply....and actually ditched the second half of 210.8(b)2 ~ just to see what would happen :cool:

Does the area have a sink?
yes there is a sink for pots pans etc but seperate from cooking this is a coffee house sandwiches bagels etc
