220V Breaker

This is a bit out of my league so I thought I'd post it here and see what the thoughts were of some people with more knowledge than myself.

Essentially I work in a facility that was wired for 220V service (European Mfg and builder). However the facility was retrofitted to 120 (changed the outlets, etc). One thing they didn't change was the breakers in the panel though. Even basic wall outlets are on slim 220V breakers (20A).

Is there any reason to question this? Will a breaker rated at 20A 220V break at 20A 120V?

  1. Only from the standpoint that the installation will not work with exactly the same characteristics as a US installation.
  2. Yes, the voltage will not make a difference but the UE breakers will trip faster than ours.
Good luck in Kandahar and welcome to the forum.
